Materials and

Processes
Materials and processes are crucial components in the creation of Comic Books. As described by
Zaccura, the process usually starts with a script or written story. The illustrator then analyzes the
script to determine the appropriate visuals to assist the story. After this, the illustrator usually creates
thumbnail sketches and storyboards to help develop the layout of the narrative. These thumbnail
sketches allow the illustrator to experiment with composition, perspective, and other visual elements,
which help to describe the story through images.

Once the thumbnail sketches and storyboards are finalized, the illustrator can begin the actual
artwork. The materials used in this phase depend on the illustrator's preferences, but traditional tools
such as pencils, ink, watercolors, and markers are often used. Some illustrators may also use digital
tools like tablets and drawing software to create their artwork.

Once the artwork is complete, the illustrator will often scan or photograph it and edit it using software
such as Adobe Photoshop. This editing process may include color correction, retouching, and resizing
to ensure that the artwork is optimized for its intended use, such as print or web publication.
After the editing process, the final step is to upload the artwork to a platform such as Webtoon, where
it can be shared with a wider audience. For example Zaccura uses Tapass as their main platform for
uploading comics. The platform usually requires the artwork to be formatted and optimized for digital
display, which may involve further adjustments to the file.

Throughout the entire process, the illustrator must maintain a consistent style and tone that matches
the script and enhances the narrative. This requires a deep understanding of the story's themes,
characters, and setting, as well as an ability to convey emotion and expression through the visuals.
